Healing recipes of the highland villages

Mế Spa uses the herbs of these very hills — leaf remedies passed down through village families — for steaming wooden foot tubs, full herbal baths and relaxing massage. No industrial oils; only forest leaves and the stream outside the veranda.

After a day at Pác Bó or on the trails, a hot soak before bed is the recovery guests praise most.

The Dao herbal bath tradition

Mế’s team includes Dao villagers — keepers of the famous northern herbal bath. A true bath may hold from a dozen to a hundred leaf varieties, grouped by purpose: skin-soothing leaves like honeysuckle and star-fruit leaf; muscle-and-bone leaves; calming sả, hồi and quế.

The warm infusion loosens muscles and moves the blood — not merely a spa treatment, but an inheritance of knowledge.

Sleep deep, wake to the stream

Recovery at Mế is not confined to the spa: it is deep sleep in a warm timber room, mornings with no alarm — only the stream and roosters — and honest garden meals. Guests say “four nights at Mế heal more than a long holiday”.

Groups should reserve spa time slots ahead so there are enough tubs and hands.
