Amid the museum

Dinner inside a living museum

Mế’s dining hall is no sealed banquet room — timber stilt-house spaces open to gardens and stream, tables laid with hand-woven brocade, blue-glazed ceramics, and a whole wall of antique clay jars in timber alcoves. Mountain breeze for air-conditioning, the stream for background music.

At dusk the warm lights come on beneath the trees — many groups choose exactly this hour for the most memorable outdoor feast of their trip.
