The long routes

Bản Giốc & Ngườm Ngao — one day from Mế

From Mế you can cover Cao Bằng’s two great wonders in a day: Bản Giốc waterfall, its main and side falls spreading 208 metres along the border, and Ngườm Ngao cave — 2,144 metres of chambers discovered in 1921. The two sit just 3km apart.

The cave holds 18–25°C all year — cool in summer, mild in winter — so the route is lovely in any season. Mế advises the best departure times, roads and rest stops.
